At the Spring 2022 launch event, Apple unveiled a slew of new products. This included the new, more affordable iPhone SE 5G and the new iPad Air, which, like the latest iPad Pro, is now powered by an M1 chip.
What’s New in The iPad Air Gen 5?
The new iPad Air has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and comes in a variety of colours, including space grey, starlight, pink, purple, and a new blue. The iPad Air also has a P3 wide colour gamut, True Tone, and an anti-reflective screen coating, as well as 500 nits of brightness.
The new M1 chip provides an 8-core CPU, an 8-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine to power advanced machine learning (ML) functions in the new iPad Air. This allows for 4K editing, graphically intensive gameplay, and more realistic augmented reality (AR) experiences.
The new iPad Air also features eSIM and WiFi 6 support, as well as peak speeds of up to 3.5Gbps. The tablet’s USB-C port is now twice as fast as previous generations, allowing it to connect to a variety of devices such as cameras, external storage, and displays with up to 6K resolution.
The new iPad Air has stereo speakers, as well as built-in TouchID on the top button. During video calls, the tablet has an Ultra Wide 12MP front camera with Center Stage, which automatically pans the screen to include more people. iPadOS 15 is also pre-installed on the device.
On the back, there’s a 12MP wide camera that can record 4K video. When it comes to accessories, the new iPad Air works with the Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard Folio, Magic Keyboard, and Smart Folio covers, among others.
