According to the sources, the investigation agency wants to question the 48-year-old actor about allegations of stashing money abroad.

Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law, had also been summoned for questioning, but she had twice requested more time.

In 2017, the Enforcement Directorate began looking into alleged forex violations. It had sent notices to the Bachchan family since 2004 under the Reserve Bank of India’s Liberalized Remittance Scheme (LRS), asking them to explain their foreign remittances.

Aishwarya Rai had submitted records pertaining to the under investigation foreign payments. According to sources, the agency wants to record her statement right now.

The “Panama Papers” investigation is a massive investigation involving millions of documents that were stolen and leaked to the media in 2016. The case centres on allegations that the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people set up offshore accounts or shell companies to avoid paying taxes. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists examined and published leaked financial records of politicians, businesspeople, and celebrities from around the world.

The Panama Papers were said to include over 300 Indians.
