After being suspended from Rajya Sabha – Priyanka Chaturvedi resigns as anchor of Sansad TV show

After being suspended from the Rajya Sabha along with eleven others for ‘unruly’ behaviour during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has resigned as an anchor for a show on Sansad TV.

She wrote to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu in a letter, saying, “I am stepping down as an anchor of Sansad TV’s show Meri Kahaani with great sadness; I am unwilling to occupy space on Sansad TV for a show but am being denied space for discharging parliamentary duties due to the arbitrary suspension of our 12 MPs. As a result, despite my commitment to the show, I must withdraw.”

For their “unruly” behaviour during the previous session in August, the 12 opposition MPs were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the entire Winter Session of Parliament. The suspension has been described by the opposition as “undemocratic” and “in violation of all of the Upper House Rules of Procedure.”

Six Congress MPs have been suspended, two each from the Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena, and one each from the CPI and the CPI-M. (M). They’ve been protesting every day in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex, and they’ve decided to keep doing so until their suspension is lifted.
